On 25 September 2023, BHB celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2023 at its Dhaka office with 25 pharmacy professionals from different parts of Dhaka city and BHB team members. This year’s theme was “Pharmacists strengthening health systems”. The theme recognised pharmacists’ remarkable contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and commemorated their overall contributions to health care systems and communities worldwide. They are the unsung heroes of health care, tirelessly serving in pharmacies, delivering crucial medications to patients, supporting hospitals, driving innovation in industry, and advancing ground-breaking research in their mission to improve lives.
The BHB Country Project Director, Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad, chaired the event. BHB highlighted why the theme had been chosen and presented a summary of the recently enacted National Drugs and Cosmetics Act 2023, the draft guideline on antimicrobial resistance containment, and findings of a BHB survey on the role of Bangladeshi pharmacy professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
