National Guideline on Accreditation of Model Pharmacy and Model Medicine Shop in Bangladesh – a valuable document to guide the National Drug Authority to sustain the accreditation program of retail medicine shops

About the guideline

The MSH’s Better Health in Bangladesh project assisted the DGDA in developing a national guideline to sustain the program to accredit model pharmacies and model medicine shops without external assistance. A committee headed by a Director of DGDA led the development process of the guidelines. The guideline has been printed and distributed among the DGDA district offices countrywide. The guideline equips DGDA officials with the information and tools to effectively implement the accreditation process for retail medicine shops and recognize them as the Model Medicine Shops or Model Pharmacies. Moreover, the guideline assists the medicine shop owners and hospital pharmacies to prepare for receiving accreditation from the DGDA and promote compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards.

The guideline includes

  • Current scenario of the retail pharmacy sector in Bangladesh and its prospect for potential improvement
  • Medicine shop pre-assessment process
  • GPP training process for model pharmacies and model medicine shops
  • Medicine shop post-assessment process
  • Process to inspect a medicine shop ready for accreditation
  • Accreditation visit checklists
  • Final accreditation by issuing a certificate signed by the DG of DGDA
  • Accreditation validity period.
