Study shows model medicine shops effectively maintaining the product cold chain

BHB undertook a study in 2022 to understand the level of adherence to Good Pharmacy Practice by the medicine dispensers they had trained from model medicine shops. DGDA leads the model medicine shop initiative with technical assistance from BHB and funding from FCDO. The preliminary report shows that 51.2% of the medicine shops (129 out of 252) sell temperature-sensitive medicines, such as insulin and vaccines; all of them have functional refrigerators with most of the refrigerators having thermometers to monitor the ideal storage temperature. These medicine shops were storing temperature-sensitive medicines at the right temperature (2-8°C). The final study report should be available in January 2023.
